“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? … Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

The Story of Risk

10 years ago a student taking his final year Psychology degree exam paper turned over his paper along with his peers and was confronted with the question that his future career aspirations would hang on.  The question read ‘What is risk?’…

Everyone in the exam hall began furiously scribbling down all the information and arguments that they had been cramming into their brains over the last weeks of intense revision.

The invigilator signalled the end of the exam by asking all students to stop writing.  At this point, 3 hours after turning over the paper, the student concerned had managed just two words…

“This is.”

He received a first-class honours.
